The Wellsboro Track teams had strong showings at the Coudersport Booster Invite on Friday, May 5. The boys finished 2nd overall (89 points) and the girls were 4th (53 points).
For the boys sophomore Micah Vickery (17.15) was 3rd in the 110m hurdles, junior Dillion Boyce (11.94) was 2nd in the 100m, freshmen Max Macias (5:07.05) and Jude Cuneo (5:08.18) were 7th and 8th in the 1600m, freshman Jonathan Carl (51.65) won the 400m, Vickery (44.81) was 3rd in the 300m hurdles, Cuneo (2:17.16) was 7th in the 800m, Boyce (24.70) was 5th in the 200m, and freshman Henry Whitney (12:31.38) was 11th in the 3200m.
Senior Kyle Mosher (5-ft, 6) won the high jump, senior Spencer Wetzel (10-ft) was 2nd in the pole vault, sophomore Micaiah Fitch (18-ft, 4.5) was 9th in the long jump, and junior Mitchell Butler (34-ft, 10) was 12th in the triple jump.
Senior Wyatt Gastrock (107-ft, 5) was 8th in the discus, juniors Watson Feil (139-ft, 11) and Noah Morey (138-ft) were 3rd and 4th in the javelin, and Morey (34-ft, 4) was 12th in the shot put.
Wellsboro was 2nd in the 4x800m relay (9:23.76), 3rd in the 4x100m relay (48.39), and 5th in the 4x800m relay (3:52.69).
For the girls senior Liliana Cuneo (19.15) was 4th in the 100m hurdles, senior Kate DeCamp (14.29) was 11th in the 100m, senior Madeline Gage (6:10.63) was 6th in the 1600m, junior Sara Seeling (51.80) won the 300m hurdles, Gage (2:46.94) was 8th in the 800m, DeCamp (29.37) was 9th in the 200m, and junior Madison Robbins (16:59.73) was 12th in the 3200m.
Freshman Kristina Belz (4-ft, 6) and sophomore Annie Gehman (4-ft, 4) were 3rd and 4th in the high jump, freshmen Megan Mosher and Brooke Wheeler both cleared 5-ft, 6 to finish 7th and 8th in the pole vault, Gehman (15-ft, 5) was 4th in the long jump, and Gehman won the triple jump (34-ft, 6).
Junior Hannah Gilmour (74-ft, 5) was 8th in the discus, Seeling (86-ft, 3) was 3rd in the javelin, and junior Grace Harlan (26-ft, 11.5) and Gilmour (26-ft, 5) were 8th and 9th in the shot put.
The Lady Hornets were 3rd in the 4x100m relay (56.38).
"Both teams had a strong showing, competing with similar sized and skilled teams," boys head coach Jill Gastrock said. "Our hurdlers rocked, both boys and girls. Micah Vickery earning third place in the 110 and 300 as well as high jump. Kyle Mosher jumped twice at 5’4” and 5’6” to earn first place. Jumper Annie Gehman was the very last athlete off the field, bagging a first in triple jump. Jonathan Carl closed a wide gap in the final relay with a sub-51 second split (50.69 - handheld, state qualifying time) as anchor and the team PR'd by 4 seconds: Micaiah Fitch, Aden Tom, Jude Cuneo, and J. Carl. Boys 4x800 clinched second place and PR'd by 7 seconds: Max Macias, Jude Cuneo, Henry Whitney, and Aden Tom."
Both teams will be back in action at the NTL Championships at Athens next Friday.
