The Wellsboro Track and Field teams started their season with a sweep of Sayre at home on Tuesday, March 28.
The boys won 124-23 and the girls won 92-34.
"Our athletes performed well and didn't complain about the cold," said boys head coach Jill Gastrock. "We had many PRs and a few district qualifiers! Our freshmen had an awesome debut and our upperclassmen began their year ahead of where they finished last year, improving PRs and modeling great sportsmanship!"
For the girls senior Kate DeCamp (14.27) and freshman Lilah Parades (14.54) were 2nd and 3rd in the 100m, DeCamp (30.60) and junior Maddy Mascho (32.70) were 2nd and 3rd in the 200m, senior Madeline Gage won the 800m in 3:02.66 and also won the 1600m (6:15.30). Junior Madison Robbins (17:19.74) won the 3200m run, senior Ella Posada (19.74) was 2nd in the 100m hurdles, and junior Sara Seeling (56.06) was 2nd in the 300m hurdles.
Wellsboro took both the 4x100m (59.19) and 4x800m (13:53.13) relays.
Sophomore Annie Gehman (4-ft, 8) won the high jump followed by freshmen Kristina Belz (4-ft, 4) and Brooke Wheeler (4-ft). Freshman Megan Mosher (4-ft, 6) was 2nd in the pole vault, Gehman (13-ft, 11.5) won the long jump and also won the triple jump (33-ft, 8.5).
Wellsboro swept the shot put with junior Grace Harlan (27-ft, 9.5), junior Hannah Gilmour (26-10.5), and junior Hannalee Cleveland (22-ft, 6) taking 1st through 3rd.
Gilmour (79-ft, 2) Cleveland (48-ft, 5) and Harlan (47-ft, 6) swept the discus and freshman Rowan Butters (68-ft, 2.5), Cleveland (66-ft), and Gilmour (63-ft, 7) swept the javelin.
For the boys junior Dillion Boyce won the 100m (12.11) and the 200m (24.77) followed by sophomore Jack Bryant (12.18 & 26.03). Freshman Jonathan Carl (55.95) won the 400m, freshman Jude Cueno won the 800m (2:26.51) and the 3200m (12:46.58), and freshman Henry Whitney (6:16.40) was 2nd in the 1600m.
Sophomore Micah Vickery (17.69) won the 110m hurdles and the 300m hurdles (47.13) and Wellsboro swept all three relays, winning the 4x100m in 48.91, the 4x400m in 4:51.31, and the 4x800m in 10:36.61.
Senior Kyle Mosher (6-ft) won the high jump, enior Spencer Wetzel (9-ft) won the pole vault, senior Aiden Gehman took 1st in both the long jump (19-ft, 7.75) and the triple jump (39-ft, 4.5), senior Wyatt Gastrock was 2nd in the shot put (31-ft, 8) and won the discus (112-ft, 6), and junior Noah Morey (141-ft, 7.5) won the javelin.
The Hornets are back in action on Tuesday, April 4 in a tri-meet with Athens at Canton.
