Senior Hayes Campbell scored a game-high 20 points to lead the Hornets to a 60-43 win over Williamson on Wednesday, December 6.
The win was the first for Coach Ron Doughtie at the helm.
Wellsboro started off strong, outscoring the Warriors 16-10 in the opening quarter, but did their damage in the 2nd with 20 points to take a 36-21 lead into halftime. Campbell scored 8 of his 20 points, including going 6-for-6 at the foul line, in the quarter.
The Hornets outscored Williamson 24-22 in the second half to secure their first win of the season.
Sophomore Luke Rothermel joined Campbell in double figures on the evening, scoring a career-high 14 points while grabbing six rebounds. Junior Mitchel Lechler added 9 points, senior Caden Smith pitched in 8, and sophomore Marek Mascho and senior Ian Hoose added 5 points and 4 points, respectively. Campbell also added 7 boards and made 3 steals, Smith blocked three shots, and Mascho made 3 steals.
Jack Nolan (15) and Kristian Mizdail (13) led Williamson.
The Hornet JV team also picked up their first win of the year, defeating Williamson 51-14. Sophomore Jonathan Carl led the way with 15 points while freshman Colin Fletcher added 12 and freshman Max Mascho chipped in with 11.
Wellsboro (1-1, 1-0 NTL Large School Division) travels to Sayre Friday night.
