Senior Cameron Brought threw a 3-hit, 8 strikeout shut out as the Wellsboro Varsity Baseball team shut out Towanda, 10-0, on Friday, April 14.
Brought thew all but one pitch against the 24 batters he faced, scattering 3 hits and walking 5. Senior Blake Hamblin threw the game's final pitch.
"Our total game approach tonight was the best it has been all season," head coach Steve Adams said.
Wellsboro took the lead right out of the gate with 4 runs. Junior Caden Smith and freshman Marek Mascho drew a pait of walks, then Brought ripped a triple in his 1st at bat to bring them home and putting the Hornets up 2-0. Hamblin doubled in the next at bat scoring Brought, then sophomore Gabe Sprouse drove in Hamblin, making it 4-0. Wellsboro increased their lead with two runs in the 4th. Sophomore Alec Magli led off the inning with a base knock followed by a walk by Smith, bringing up Brought. The senior doubled this time around, scoring Magli and Smith, making it 6-0 in favor of the home team.
The Hornets scored 4 more runs in the bottom of the 5th, closing out the game. Sophomores Lucas Cuneo, freshman Drayden McGee, Smith, and senior Conner Adams all scored.
Brought led Wellsboro at the plate, going 2-for-2 with 4 RBIs and two extra base hits. Hamblin finished 2-for-3, Adams was 2-for-4, Sprouse was 1-for-3, and McGee and Magli were both 1-for-2.
The win snaps a three-game skid for Wellsboro improving them to 5-4 (5-2 NTL Large School Division). The team is back in action at Wyalusing next Wednesday.
