The Wellsboro Varsity Volleyball team rebounded following a loss to North Penn-Liberty with a 3-1 road win over Athens on Thursday, October 6.
"I'm so proud of the way the girls played tonight," head coach Jeff Zuchowski said. "We bounced back from a few tough losses and came up with a hard-fought win when we really needed it. Hopefully we can keep the momentum going as we finish off the regular season."
The Lady Hornets edged the Lady Wildcats 29-27 to take the 1st set. Athens rallied to win the 2nd, 25-22, but the Lady Hornets would ultimately prevail and take the next two sets, 25-17 and 26-24.
Junior Natalie Cleveland made 25 digs while senior Emily Starkweather added 11 points, 9 kills, and 21 digs. Senior Maddi Bordas chipped in 18 assists and 9 digs, juniors Olivia Chilson and Meredith Brownlee each had 3 kills, and sophomores Lexi Urena and Paige Logsdon each had 8 kills. Logsdon also recorded 10 blocks and 6 digs.
Brownlee also added 12 points and 12 digs while Chilson contributed 10 digs.
Athens took the JV game, winning 2-1 (19-25, 25-21, 15-8).
The win improves the Lady Hornets' record to 8-6 (5-4 NTL Large School Division). The team is back in action at Troy tomorrow morning.
