A run in the top of the 6th by South Williamsport broke a 5-5 tie between the Mounties and the Wellsboro Varsity Baseball team on Saturday, April 23.
Trailing 5-0 after the 2nd the Hornets rallied to tie the game. Wellsboro scored a run in the 3rd as senior Dylan Abernathy led off the inning with a double then later scored on a base hit by junior Cameron Brought. Then later in the 4th Wellsboro scored 4 more runs to tie it at 5-all. Abernathy led off with a base hit, and later scored, then seniors Darryn Callahan and Isaac Keane, and Brought all crossed home plate.
The Hornets had 7 hits at the plate on the day, 2 by Brought, 2 by Abernathy, and solo hits from Keane, sophomore Caden Smith, and senior Brody Morral. Keane (2) and Brought also had RBIs on the day.
Smith pitched 5 innings, allowing 1 run on 4 hits with a walk and 3 strikeouts. Junior Blake Hamblin threw two innings, giving up 5 runs on 6 hits with 3 walks and a strikeout.
The loss drops the Hornets to 5-4 (5-3 NTL Large School Division). The team is back in action this afternoon at home against Cowanesque Valley.
