The Wellsboro Girls Varsity Basketball suffered a 34-24 NTL Large School Division loss to Troy on their home court on Wednesday, January 5.
Troy held the Lady Hornets to just one point after the opening quarter and they went on to build a 10-point, 18-8, lead at halftime. Wellsboro managed to cut the lead to 9 after the third quarter but was unable to dig themselves out of the hole from the first quarter.
Senior Emma Coolidge led Wellsboro with 9 points, sophomore Maddy Mascho and freshman Chloe Brandenburg both recorded 5 points, junior Ella Posada and sophomore Emily Morris added two points each, and senior Emma Brandenburg chipped in a point from the foul line, which Wellsboro shot 12-of-16 from.
Katie Lackey led all scorers on the night with 10 points.
Troy also won the JV game, 29-26, to sweep the night. The young Lady Hornets trailed 20-11 heading into the 4th quarter but were unable to complete the comeback. Morris led Wellsboro with 11 points.
The loss drops the Lady Hornets' record to 4-4 (3-1 NTL Large School Division). The team is back in action on Friday, January 7 on the road in Athens.
