The Wellsboro Varsity Volleyball team suffered a 3-1 loss to Canton in an NTL cross-over game on Thursday, September 22.
Canton took the first two sets, 25-20 and 25-16, to take a 2-0 lead before the Lady Hornets edged the Lady Warriors, 25-23, in the third set. Canton would go on to win the fourth, however, 25-16, to take the match.
Senior Emily Starkweather led the Lady Hornets with 19 digs, 5 kills, and 4 points while junior Natalie Cleveland finished with 13 digs. Senior Maddi Bordas scored 10 points, made 7 assists, and had 4 digs, junior Meredith Brownlee had 6 points, 4 kills and 6 digs, and junior Mya Lockett had 3 points, 4 kills, and 3 digs.
Sophomores Paige Logsdon and Lexi Urena scored 6 points each. Urena also added 6 kills, 7 assists, and 7 digs. Logsdon added 2 kills, 6 blocks, and 5 digs.
Wellsboro won the JV game 2-0 (25-19, 25-23) to improve to 5-5 on the year.
The loss in the Varsity game drops the Lady Hornets to 6-4 (3-3 NTL Large School Division). The team is back on the court on Monday, September 26 at Coudersport for a non-league game.
