Athens edged Wellsboro 3-2 during Senior Night on Tuesday, October 25 to wind down the regular season.
Wellsboro took the first set 25-20 but the Lady Wildcats rallied to take the next two, 25-16 and 28-26, to take a 2-1 match lead. The Lady Hornets won the 4th set 25-22 to force a 5th and final set, which Athens took 15-10 to claim the win.
Senior Maddi Bordas tallied 31 assists and 13 digs and Emily Starkweather recorded 7 points, 6 kills, and 18 digs in their final home game. Junior Natalie Cleveland finished with 10 points and 23 digs, junior Meredith Brownlee added 6 points, 4 kills, 3 blocks, and 13 digs, sophomore Lexi Urena added 16 points, 8 kills, and 19 digs, and sophomore Paige Logsdon finished with 10 points, 15 kills, 11 blocks, and 9 digs.
Wellsboro won the JV game 2-0 (25-18 and 25-17) to close out the season with a 9-13 record and a two-game winning streak.
The loss drops the Lady Hornets to 11-11 (7-7 NTL Large School Division). The team will be back in action in the District IV Class AA playoffs.
