The Wellsboro Varsity Volleyball team needed 5 sets in order to defeat Towanda on Monday, September 19.
The Lady Hornets won the first two sets, 25-19 and 25-20, before Towanda took the next two, 25-23 and 25-21, to force a fifth set. In the final set Wellsboro won 15-9 for their fourth straight win.
Senior Maddi Bordas scored 17 points (8 aces) while adding 17 assists and 6 digs. Senior Emily Starkweather and junior Meredith Brownlee scored 9 points each. Starkweather had 6 kills and 9 digs and Brownlee added 9 kills and 6 digs. Junior Natalie Cleveland and sophomore Paige Logsdon also added 8 points apiece. Cleveland also finished with 11 digs, while Logsdon had 5 kills, 4 blocks, and 4 digs.
Junior Mya Lockett also added 8 points and 3 kills while sophomore Lexi Urena had 11 kills and 11 assists.
Wellsboro also won the JV game 2-1 (25-14, 15-25, 18-16) to improve to 4-4 on the season.
The win improves the Lady Hornets' record to 6-2 (3-2 NTL Large School Division). The team is back in action later today against Williamsport.
