The Wellsboro Varsity Volleyball team started the 2022 season last night on the road in Northern Potter, coming home with a 3-2 win.
Northern Potter won the first set 25-21 but the Lady Hornets took sets two and three, 25-13 and 25-21 to take a 2-1 lead. The Lady Panthers rallied and edged Wellsboro 25-23 in the fourth set to force set 5, which Wellsboro took 15-8 to score the win.
Sophomore Lexi Urena led the Lady Hornets with 16 kills, 18 points (8 aces), 6 digs, and 15 assists. Sophomore Paige Logsdon recorded 11 kills and 5 blocks, junior Meredith Brownlee had 10 kills, 8 points (2 aces), 7 digs, and 8 assists, and senior Emily Starkweather had 9 kills, 22 points (4 aces), 2 blocks, and 13 digs. Senior Maddi Bordas also had 4 kills, 8 points (3 aces), 5 digs, and 32 assists.
Wellsboro also won the JV game 2-1 winning 26-24, 21-25, and 15-13.
The Lady Hornets start the year off at 1-0 before traveling to Northeast Bradford tonight for their first league game.
