The Wellsboro Junior High Basketball teams each picked up wins over Cowanesque Valley on Monday, December 5.
The girls won 37-17 and the boys won 31-23.
In the girls game the Lady Hornets led 8-3 after the first quarter but then pulled away thanks to a 23-8 run over the 2nd and 3rd quarters to build a 31-11 lead heading into the 4th quarter. Teagan Novinger led all scorers with 12 points, Lauren Gehman added 10, Adelyn Frantz and Peyton Keane chipped in 4 points each, and Kate Bryant, Rosa Sguera, and Emery Butters all added two points. Mazie Johnson also added a point from the foul line.
CV won the B game 19-11. Sguera had 3 points to lead Wellsboro while Jennifer Belz, Maddison Moore, Miranda Hoover, and Aileen Bowers all chipped in two points.
In the boys game the Hornets were in a dogfight with the Indians until the Hornets started to pull away late in the third quarter to secure their 10th win of the season. Ethan Keane scored a game-high 20 points to lead the Hornets while Max Mascho and Griffin Morral added 5 points each. Ransom Schultz also chipped in a point. Keane also added 5 steals and 4 rebounds to his point total, Morral grabbed 10 rebounds, and Mascho and Schultz grabbed 8 rebounds each. Mascho also added 7 steals.
Wellsboro won the B game 26-16. RJ Doughtie led Wellsboro with 12 points, Luke Szentesy added 10, and Tanner Allen and Mason Brill scored two points each.
Both teams are back in action on Friday, December 9 at Troy.
