On Tuesday, May 17 the Wellsboro Junior High Baseball team swept Cowanesque Valley.
The Hornets defeated CV 10-7 and 15-7.
In the 10-7 win, the Hornets started out with a 3-0 lead and jumped out to a 8-1 lead after the top of the 3rd. The Indians scored 4 runs in the bottom of the 3rd to cut the lead to 8-5 and both teams would add w runs each in the 5th as the Hornets hung on for the win.
Wellsboro had 5 hits in the game, one each by Garrett Kaltenbach, Nathan Love, Evan Parshall, Dylan Tomlinson, and Hayden Stevens. Kaltenbach and Stevens both hit doubles and Tomlinson and Stevens drove in two runs each. Gavyn Jelliff and Dylan Copp split time on the mound, combining for 5 hits, 11 walks, and 7 strikeouts.
In the 15-7 win Wellsboro again jumped out to an early 7-1 lead after the 2nd inning. CV plated 4 runs in the 3rd to close the gap but a 7-run 4th inning propelled the Hornets to victory. Cameron Owlett led Wellsboro with a 3-for-3 performance at the plate and scoring 4 runs. Coen Tennis was 2-for-4 while Luke Rothermel, Max Mascho, and Copp were all 1-for-3. Drayden McGee was 1-for-2.
Owlett, Rothermel, and Mascho all pitched, combining for 6 hits, 4 walks, and 2 strikeouts.
The Hornets improve their record to 14-1-1 and are back on the field this afternoon against Williamson.
