The Wellsboro Junior High Basketball teams wrapped up their 2022 regular seasons with a pair of wins on the road at Sayre on Wednesday, December 21.
The girls A team edged the Lady Redskins 23-22 while the boys A team won 34-16 and the B team won 31-12. There was no girls B game.
The Lady Hornets took a 10-6 lead to start out the game, but then turned cold in the 2nd and were outscored 6-1 in the 2nd quarter. Wellsboro rallied and outscored Sayre 6-4 in the third to go back in front, then held on for the one-point win.
Kate Bryant led all scorers with 9 points while Adelyn Frantz, Lauren Gehman, and Teagan Novinger all contributed 4 points, and Mazie Johnson rounded out the scoring with 2 points.
In the boys game the Hornets held the Redskins to just 6 points in the first half while scoring 19 of their own to cruise to the win. Ethan Keane led Wellsboro with 15 points, Ransom Schultz finished with 6, Keagan Spaar added 5, Max Mascho chipped in 4, and Griffin Morral and RJ Doughtie added 2 points each.
Sparr added 7 boards, 3 blocked shots, and 2 steals, Gideon Lawton had 2 assists and a rebound, Keane added 4 steals and an assist, Mascho grabbed 5 rebounds, Morral grabbed 6 boards, and Schultz had 4 rebounds and 2 steals.
In the B game Doughtie led Wellsboro with 13 points, Luke Szentesy scored 7, Tanner Allen finished with 4, Lane Cozby added 3, and Reed Richardson and Sean Ladd rounded out the scoring with 2 points. The B team finishes their season with a 14-1 record.
The Lady Hornets finish the year with a 5-10 record and the Hornets finish 13-2 before they head to an end-of-season tournament at Northeast Bradford on January 7.
