The Wellsboro Varsity Boys Basketball team made the long trek to Wyalusing and came home with a 64-57 win on Thursday, January 27.
"Great team win. Our offensive execution was our best so far all season, head coach Steve Adams said. "We made defensive adjustments as needed and the boys executed very well."
The Hornets held a slim two-point, 17-15, lead after the opening quarter but put together a 17-10 run over the second eight minutes to take a 34-25 lead at halftime. Wellsboro took the third quarter 17-16 but were outscored 16-14 in the fourth but held on for the win. Both teams shots 24 field goals on the night, but the Hornets had the advantage from the foul line, going 11-for-18 while the Rams were 3-for-6.
Junior Peyton McClure led all scorers on the evening with 21 points (5 three-point shots). Senior Darryn Callahan finished with 14, senior Liam Manning had 12, sophomore Hayes Campbell added 9, junior Cameron Brought had 6, and junior Conner Adams rounded out the scoring with 2 points. Adams made 11 assists, Callahan grabbed 8 rebounds, McClure dished out 6 assists and came away with a steal, and Manning and Campbell each had 7 rebounds.
Blake Morningstar led Wyalusing with 18 points.
Wyalusing won the JV game 52-26. Caden Smith led Wellsboro with 15 points.
The win improves the Hornets to 12-2 (10-1 NTL Large School Division). The team is back in action on Monday, January 31 against South Williamsport.
