Six days after beating Northeast Bradford 4-2, the Wellsboro Varsity Boys Soccer team defeated the Panthers again, 7-1, this time at home on Tuesday, October 4.
"The boys generated a lot of scoring opportunities and put the ball on frame tonight," head coach Todd Fitch said. "Good things tend to happen with that combination."
Wellsboro took an early lead 12 minutes into the game as senior Peyton McClure dribbled in and around the NEB keeper. Senior Jack Poirier was in on the assist.
The Panthers would tie the game up 8 minutes later on a Josh Stanton goal, but that would be the only one the Hornet defense allowed.
Sophomore Alex Citrino retook the lead for the Hornets with 14:21 left in the first half on a shot to the far post from the right side of the field. Wellsboro then went on to add five more goals in the second half: one by Poirier, Citrino, senior Aiden Gehman. Junior Caden Smith also scored a pair of second half goals. Gehman recorded 4 saves.
There was no JV game.
The win improves the Hornets' record to 10-2 overall and 9-0 in the Northern Tier League. Next up for Wellsboro is a home game with Williamson on Thursday, October 6.
