The Wellsboro Varsity Boys Soccer team scored a 3-0 shut out over Montoursville on the road on Saturday, October 8 to avenge an early season loss.
"The boys are really playing well. It's been a good week," said head coach Todd Fitch following his 60th career win.
Senior Sam Rudy scored in the first half to put the Hornets on the board then Wellsboro added a pair of goals in the second half for good measure. With 27:48 remaining sophomore Lucas Cuneo cleaned up a deflection for the put back to make it 2-0, then with 3:05 left senior Jack Poirier notched career goal #68 on an unassisted goal.
Wellsboro held the Warriors to just two shot attempts on goal on the day, while taking 13 of their own. Senior Aiden Gehman and junior Mitchell Butler both saw action in the net. Gehman made 3 saves and Butler recorded one.
Montoursville won the JV game by a score of 3-1. Wellsboro's goal was scored by freshman David Seeling on a penalty kick.
The win (Wellsboro's 6th in a row after dropping a pair of non-league games) improves the Hornets to 12-2 (10-0 NTL). The team is back in action on Tuesday, October 11 at home against Galeton. It is Wellsboro's Senior Night.
