The Wellsboro Varsity Boys Basketball team rolled to a 69-16 home-opening win over Williamson on Wednesday, December 7.
Wellsboro jumped out to a 22-7 lead after the first quarter then outscored the Warriors 22-4 in the second half to take a commanding 44-11 lead at the end of the 1st half. The Hornets then held Williamson to just 5 total points in the 2nd half.
Senior Cameron Brought led all scorers with 19 points, followed by senior Peyton McClure with 18. Junior Hayes Campbell and senior Conner Adams finished with 8 points each, junior Ian Hoose and freshman Aaron Kirk added 4 points, juniors Caden Smith and Isaac Macias chipped in three points, and freshman Marek Mascho added a basket.
Adams added 7 assists and 4 rebounds to his points total, Smith dished out 5 assists, McClure added 6 rebounds and 4 steals, and Brought and Campbell dominated the glass, both grabbing 9 boards.
In the JV game, the Hornets won 44-24 to score their 1st win of the 2022-23 season. Sophomores Owen Stevens and Braeden Abernathy led Wellsboro with 10 points each.
Wellsboro (2-0, 1-0 NTL Large School Division) host Sayre on Friday, December 9.
