The Wellsboro Varsity Boys Soccer team snapped a two-game non-league losing streak in a 3-0 win over North Penn-Liberty on Wednesday, September 21.
"The boys created opportunities, but it took us 68 minutes to find the back of the net," coach Todd Fitch said. "I'd like to see us get back to the finishing form we had at the start of the season."
All three Wellsboro goals were scored in the second half.
With 12:54 remaining senior Jack Poirier converted a direct kick by sophomore Lucas Cuneo to put Wellsboro in front. The next two were scored by senior Sam Rudy. Rudy's first was unassisted with 3:54 remaining. The second came not even a minute and a half later off an assist by Poirier.
The Hornets took 14 shots on goal while holding the Mounties to 6. Senior Aiden Gehman made all six stops in goal.
Wellsboro also had a commanding 13-1 advantage in corner kicks.
Wellsboro also pulled a shut out in the JV game, winning 1-0. The goal was scored by freshman Noah Zengerle.
The win improves the Hornets' record to 7-2 (6-0 NTL). The team is back in action at Galeton on Saturday.
