A 20-5 first quarter by the Wellsboro Varsity Boys Basketball team gave them their 4th straight win to start the 2022-23 season on Wednesday, December 21.
"Last night was a total team win," head coach Steve Adams said. "Our defensive intensity was good. We are playing solid team basketball."
The Hornets back up their 20-point opening quarter with a 19-point 2nd quarter to lead 39-17 at the half, then held the Black Knights to just 11 points in the second half to cruise to the win.
Senior Cameron Brought recorded a double-double of 19 points and 11 rebounds to lead the Hornets while senior Conner Adams scored 17 points and senior Peyton McClure added 11. Junior Hayes Campbell added 8 points and grabbed 10 boards, and junior Caden Smith pitched in 5 points. Adams added 8 assists and 3 steals to his point total, Smith added 5 steals and 4 assists, McClure contributed 4 steals and 4 rebounds, and junior Watson Feil grabbed 2 rebounds.
Grady Flynn led Towanda with 11 points.
In the JV game the Hornets fell to Towanda, 30-23, dropping them to 2-2 on the year. Freshman Marek Mascho had 9 points and sophomore Owen Stevens added 6.
Wellsboro improves to 4-0 overall and 3-0 in the NTL Large School Division. The team is back in action tomorrow evening at Northeast Bradford, weather depending.
