The Wellsboro Varsity Boys Soccer team won their second straight game after a 3-1 win over league opponent Galeton on Saturday, September 24.
"We had some miscues that we need to prevent, and some areas where we need to improve, but overall, I thought it was a good night," head coach Todd Fitch said. "I liked the boys mindset going in, their response to Galeton’s early goal, and the effort throughout."
The Tigers took an early lead with a goal less than 7 minutes into the contest but tied the game soon after on a goal by junior Jacob Abadi, off a deflection, with 27:32 remaining. The Hornets took the lead, one they would not relinquish, two minutes later on a header by senior Jack Poirier from a throw-in by senior Peyton McClure.
Poirier later capped the scoring with 15:28 to play in the opening half off an assist by junior Caden Smith.
Wellsboro took 14 shots on goal while holding Galeton to just two attempts. Senior Aiden Gehman and junior Mitchell Butler each recorded a save. The Hornets also had a 6-1 advantage in corner kicks.
In the JV game the Hornets won by a 1-nil shutout. Freshman David Seeling scored the game's lone goal, unassisted.
The win improves the Hornets' record to 8-2 (7-0 NTL). The team is back in action at Northeast Bradford on Wednesday, September 28.
