Athens scored three first half goals and withstood a Wellsboro rally to edge the Lady Hornets 3-2 on Thursday, October 20.
The Lady Wildcats scored at 35:37, 29:15, and 12:07 to put a 3-0 cushion between them and Wellsboro, however the Lady Hornets battled back in the second half with a pair of goals.
Junior Sara Seeling scored both goals. Her first was at the 35:12 mark assisted by senior Jordyn Abernathy. The second came with 8:09 remaining, assisted by senior Molly Ingerick.
Athens out shot Wellsboro 12-5 and also had a 6-0 advantage in corner kicks.
Sophomore Annie Gehman recorded 9 saves in goal.
Athens won the JV game 1-0.
The loss ends Wellsboro's season with a 6-11-1 record (5-7 NTL).
