A pair of second half goal by the Athens Lady Wildcats pushed them to a 3-2 win past the Wellsboro Varsity Girls Soccer team on Wednesday, October 5.
Athens took an early lead, not even 4 minutes into the match, but the Lady Hornets rebounded just over a minute later. Off a corner kick and two shots, junior Sara Seeling gathered the ball for a shot past the keeper to tie the game up. 10 minutes later Wellsboro took the lead on a goal by sophomore Carys Barlett, assisted by senior Molly Ingerick.
Wellsboro held the 2-1 lead until 28:45 left in the second half when the Lady Wildcats tied the game up. They would later take the lead, and hold on for the win, five minutes later.
Athens doubled up Wellsboro on shots 13-7 and had a 4-2 advantage in corner kicks. Sophomore Annie Gehman made 8 saves.
Athens won the JV game 2-0.
The loss drops the Lady Hornets to 5-7-1 (4-5 NTL). The team is back on the field at home on Saturday against Wyalusing.
