A 12-2 second quarter by the Wellsboro Varsity Girls Basketball team led them to a 49-29 win over North Penn-Liberty on Friday, December 17.
The Lady Mounties held a slight 12-11 lead after the opening quarter, but Wellsboro outscored them by 10 before halftime to go into the locker rooms at 23-14. Wellsboro continued to outscore Liberty in the second half, outscoring them 12-8 in the third and 14-7 in the fourth to earn their second straight victory.
Senior Emma Coolidge led all scorers with 20 points and freshman Paige Logsdon dropped 13 and had 10 rebounds for her 1st career double-double. Sophomore Maddy Mascho had 6 points, senior Emma Brandenburg added 5, freshman Chloe Brandenburg chipped in 3, and sophomore Emily Morris rounded out with 2. Coolidge added 8 steals and 4 assists to her point total, Emma Brandenburg grabbed 7 boards, and junior Ella Posada made 4 steals.
In the JV game Wellsboro rolled to a 20-2 win to improve to 2-1. Morris led all scorers with 8 points and freshman Raegan Watkins-Bourret added 6 points.
The win improves the Lady Hornets to 3-1 (2-0 NTL Large School Division). The team is back in action on Tuesday, December 21 against Canton.
