The Wellsboro Middle School Basketball teams split a pair of games with Canton at home on Tuesday, March 2.
In the girls game the young Lady Hornets A Team beat Canton 43-14. Paige Logsdon had 6 points, 5 steals, 6 rebounds, 6 blocks, 3 assists. Chloe Brandenburg has 25 points and 5 assists, Madelyn Losinger had 5 points, Raegan Watkins-Bourret had 4 points and 3 assists, LeAnna Fuentes had 4 points and 2 steals.
"The girls played good offensive team ball," said head coach Janelle Tombs. "We had 14 assists as a team with each player having at least one."
Wellsboro's B Team lost a tough one, 16-17. "We had shots at the end they just did not fall," added Tombs. "They continue their good team passing.
In the boys game the Hornets lost to Canton Tuesday night by a score of 31-27. Wellsboro held a 7-4 advantage after the first quarter, but a strong second quarter by Canton allowed the Warriors to take a 17-15 lead at halftime. Each team scored 6 points in the third quarter and Canton then outscored the Hornets 8-6 in the final quarter to secure the victory.
"Give Canton a lot of credit, they came here and played a good basketball game," said coach Kyle Smith. "We struggled tonight to establish any rhythm and they outplayed us for long stretches of the game. They were the better team tonight and deserved to win."
Micaiah Fitch scored 12 points to lead the Hornets, Micah Vickery scored 6 points, Mitchel Lechler, Marek Mascho and EJ Keck all scored 3 points each.
Wellsboro won the B game 45-19. Jacob Baldwin scored 12 points, Braeden Abernathy, Marek Mascho, Owen Stevens, and Peyton Yawger all scored 6 points, Luke Rothermel scored 5 points and Jonathan Carl added 4.
