The Wellsboro Boys Middle School basketball team defeated Cowanesque Valley 46-30 Tuesday night for their fourth win in a row. The Hornets led 11-5 after the first quarter and took a 19-12 lead into the halftime break. Both teams shot well in the third quarter and Wellsboro led 35-22 after three quarters before sealing the victory.
"We got a great test from Cowanesque Valley tonight and I thought the boys responded to the challenge," said head coach Kyle Smith. "It is always difficult to play road games and face some adversity. It was a physical game and both teams played well for long stretches of the game. I thought our ability to make shots in the second half was the difference because CV hung around for all four quarters."
Jonathan Carl led the Hornets with 13 points, Aaron Kirk scored 10 points, Luke Rothermel scored 8 points, Jacob Baldwin scored 6 points, Ethan Keane scored 5 points and Drayden McGee added 4 points.
The Hornet B team won 20-18 to remain unbeaten on the season. Gideon Lawton scored 7 points to lead the Hornets, Maxwell Mascho and Keagan Spaar each scored 4 points, Joseph Baldwin scored 3 and Mason Brill added 2 points.
