The Wellsboro Hornet Junior High Basketball team defeated North-Penn Mansfield 43-13 Thursday night.
The Hornets jumped out to a 11-7 lead after the first quarter and a strong second quarter allowed Wellsboro to take a 23-9 lead at halftime. The Hornets then outscored the Tigers 20-4 in the second half to cruise to the victory.
"Our defensive effort was outstanding tonight and the boys knocked down shots on the offensive end of the court as well," said coach Kyle Smith. "We have had a very busy stretch of games and we continue to get contributions from the whole team every night. I'm proud of the effort from all of the boys."
Jonathan Carl led the Hornets with 14 points, Aaron Kirk added 9 points, Drayden McGee and Luke Rothermel each scored 6 points, and Ethan Keane, Marek Mascho, Malachai Rinebold and Noah Zengerle all scored 2 points each as well.
The Wellsboro B team won 19-8. Maxwell Mascho scored 7 points, Gideon Lawton scored 4 points, Joseph Baldwin scored 3 points, Curtis Singleton scored 3 points and Marek Mascho scored 2 points.
