The Wellsboro Boys Middle School Basketball Team was defeated by Northeast Bradford 41-38 Saturday morning in the first game of the season for both teams.
Northeast Bradford led 14-12 after a back and forth first quarter and took a 23-22 lead into the halftime break. Both teams struggled to score in the third quarter and Northeast Bradford led 30-26 after three quarters and then held on for the win.
"The boys played a good first game against a talented Northeast Bradford team," said Head Coach Kyle Smith. "Overall, I was pleased with the effort and execution on both ends of the court. It really was a game that could have gone our way late. We got tired in the second half, but the boys had the game within reach with a minute to play." I believe we are on the right track. We have to continue to do the little things that can take a good team to a great level."
Aaron Kirk paced the Hornets with 18 points, Jonathan Carl and Drayden McGee each scored 6 points, Ethan Keane scored 5 points and Luke Rothermel added 3 points.
Wellsboro won the B game 20-15. Keagan Spaar led the Hornets with 10 points, Gideon Lawton scored 4 points, and Max Macias, Maxwell Mascho and Mason Brill all scored 2 points each.
