The Wellsboro Middle School Basketball teams split with Towanda at home on Saturday, December 4.
In the boys game Wellsboro beat Towanda 40-18 Saturday evening. The Hornets jumped out to a quick 13-2 lead after the first quarter and led 25-5 at halftime. Each team scored 11 points in the third quarter and the young Hornets secured the victory in the fourth quarter.
"Tonight our fast start really set the tone for this game," said coach Kyle Smith. "We have a lot of games in a row right now and our depth has allowed us to keep up our defensive effort, which is the key to our success. I'm pleased with the way the boys are playing right now."
Jonathan Carl scored 12 points to lead the Hornets, Aaron Kirk scored 11 points, Jacob Baldwin, Keagan Spaar and Maxwell Mascho each scored 4 points, Ethan Keane added 3 points and Luke Rothermel added 2 points.
The Wellsboro B Team won 41-29. Keagan Spaar scored 13 points, Marek Mascho scored 14 points, Gideon Lawton added 6 points, Maxwell Mascho scored 4 points, and Mason Brill and Colin Fletcher each added 2 points for the Hornets.
In the girls game the Lady Hornets lost 30-13. Towanda jumped out to a 10-2 lead after the first quarter, increased their lead to 16-2 at the half, and led 24-10 after the third. Olivia Carl led Wellsboro with 10 rebounds and 8 points.
Both teams are back in action tonight against Williamson.
