At the halfway point of the 2020-21 season, the Wellsboro Varsity Girls Basketball team faced their toughest opponent yet in the undefeated Towanda Lady Knights on Thursday, February 4.
Towanda remained undefeated, improving to 9-0, by defeating the Lady Hornets 48-29.
The Lady Knights led by 5, 11-6, after the opening quarter then padded their lead to 22-14 at the half, but then went on to outscore Wellsboro 26-15 to secure the win.
Senior Bailey Monks led the Lady Hornets on the evening with 10 points. Senior Sarah Mosher finished with 6, junior Emma Coolidge had 5, sophomore Rylie Boyce added 4, and seniors Kathryn Burnett and Kiyah Boyce chipped in with two points each.
Towanda's Paige Manchester led all scorers with 18.
Towanda also won the JV game, beating Wellsboro 37-16. Freshman Emily Morris led Wellsboro with 6 points.
The loss drops Wellsboro to 3-5 (2-5 NTL Large School Division). The team will be back in action on Tuesday, February 9 at rival North Penn-Mansfield.
