The Wellsboro Varsity Girls Basketball team had a three-game win streak snapped in a 47-43 non-league loss to Hughesville on Thursday, December 23.
The visiting Lady Spartans held a slim 10-8 lead after the first quarter and held onto that lead at halftime at 25-23 after both teams put together a 15-point 2nd quarter.
Hughesville opened up a 7-point lead after the third quarter, to which the Lady Hornets battled back, and outscored Hughesville 14-10 in the fourth, but came up just short at the final buzzer.
Senior Emma Coolidge led all scorers on the evening with 19 points. Sophomore Maddy Mascho added 11 points, freshman Chloe Brandenburg finished with 7, senior Emma Brandenburg had 4, and freshman Paige Logsdon rounded out the scoring with 2 points.
Alli Anstadt led Hughesville with 15 points.
Wellsboro won the JV game 19-18 in thrilling fashion as sophomore Emily Richardson hit a half court buzzer-beater to give Wellsboro the win.
The loss drops the Lady Hornets' record to 4-2 (3-0 NTL Large School Division). The team is back in action on Monday, December 27 at Williamsport.
