The Wellsboro Varsity Girls Basketball team edged Canton, 43-38, for their third straight win and their fourth of the season on Tuesday, December 21.
The entire game was a nail-biter for the host Hornets as they held slim two points leads after the 1st quarter (10-8) and at halftime (22-20). Canton outscored Wellsboro 13-11 in the third quarter to tie the game up at 33-all heading into the final frame.
Wellsboro, however, held the Lady Warriors to just 5 points over the final 8 minutes, while scoring 10 points, to hang on for the 5-point victory.
Freshman Paige Logsdon recorded 11 points and 12 rebounds for her second consecutive double-double to lead the Lady Hornets. Senior Emma Brandenburg and freshman Chloe Brandenburg scored 8 points each, senior Emma Coolidge added 7, sophomore Maddy Mascho finished with 5, and sophomore Emily Morris rounded out the scoring with 4 points. Emma Brandenburg and Mascho added 9 and 7 rebounds, respectively and Coolidge made 5 assists.
Canton's Kendall Kitchen led all scorers with 13 points.
Wellsboro also won the JV game 21-14 behind 8 points from junior Hailie Kerr and 6 from Morris. The JV team improves to 3-1 with the win.
The Lady Hornets (4-1, 3-0 NTL Large School Division) host Hughesville on Thursday, December 23.
