A 9-run 6th inning led the Wellsboro Varsity Baseball team to a 17-0 win over Northeast Bradford on Saturday, April 24.
"We had a lot of quality at bats and Isaac was very efficient on the mound," said head coach Steve Adams.
The Hornets jumped out to an early lead with 4 runs in the 1st inning. The added 2 more in the 2nd to make it 6-0 then added runs in the 3rd and 4th to take an 8-0 lead before their offense exploded to end the game.
Wellsboro pounded out 15 hits on the afternoon, led by a 3-for-4 performance at the plate by sophomore Cameron Brought. Junior Isaac Keane was 3-for-5, junior Darryn Callahan was 3-for-4, sophomore Conner Adams was 2-for-4, and sophomore Blake Hamblin was 2-for-2. Seniors Brock Hamblin and Zach Rowland and junior Dylan Abernathy were all 1-for-2 and senior Kaeden Mann was1-for-4. Callahan had a double on triple. Brought and Brock Hamblin also hit doubles.
Keane and Callahan both drove in 3 runs each and Blake Hamblin had a 2-RBI afternoon.
Keane pitched the entire 6 innings to earn the shutout victory, allowing just 1 hit and striking out 3.
The win improves the Hornets' record to 6-4 (6-2 NTL Large School Division). The team is back in action against Sayre on Monday, April 26.
