Three first half goals by the Montoursville Warriors ended a six-game unbeaten streak by the Wellsboro Varsity Boys Soccer team as they fell 3-2 on Saturday, September 25.
"We found ourselves in an early deficit and despite a valiant effort by the boys, we could not find the equalizing goal," head coach Todd Fitch said.
The Warriors struck first in the 13th minute, then again in the 21st minute, and finally in the 36th minute to take a 3-0 lead over the Hornets. Wellsboro would add the first half's final goal to cut into the lead with the 37th minute as junior Jack Poirier scored with an assist by senior Matt Richards to make it 3-1 at the half.
The Hornets managed a second goal later in the game as Poirier assisted junior Sam Rudy to make it 3-2.
Dominick Pulizzi scored twice for Montoursville while Brayden McKibben added a goal.
Junior Aiden Gehman made 3 saves in goal for the Hornets, who held the Warriors to just six shot attempts in the game. Wellsboro took 7 shots on goal and had a 4-3 advantage in corner kicks.
The JV game ended in a 0-0 tie.
The loss drops the Hornets to 4-2-2 overall (4-0-1 NTL). The team is back in action when they host Galeton on Wednesday, September 29.
