The Wellsboro Middle School Girls Basketball team capped their season by winning the Wyalusing "Ringing in the New Year Tournament" on Saturday, January 4.
Wellsboro beat Northeast Bradford 20-19 in overtime, beat Athens 23-13, beat Blue Ridge 22-19, then lost to Warrior Run (23-25) after they came out of the losers bracket. The young Lady Hornets then beat Warrior Run 26-17 to win the championship of the double elimination tournament.
"The girls came ready to play today and played their best basketball of the season throughout the day," said head coach Darrell Morris. "It was a special way to end the season against some great competition in several tight games. This group had great team chemistry and put in the time in the off-season. I am so happy for them and proud of each of them."
Maddy Mascho had 47 points, 10 rebounds, 12 steals, and 12 assists, Paige Logsdon had 24 points, 22 rebounds, 6 steals, and 1 assist, Chloe Brandenburg had 10 points, 3 rebounds, 2 steals, 4 assists, Emily Morris had 10 points, 10 rebounds, 10 steals, and 5 assists, Emily Pierce had 4 points and 3 rebounds, Hannalee Cleveland had 1 point and 3 rebounds, Olivia Chilson had 7 points, 12 rebounds, and 3 steals, Emily Richardson had 9 points, 3 rebounds, 2 steals, and 3 assists, and Hannah Gilmour had 2 points, 2 rebounds, and 1 steal.
Wellsboro finishes the season with a 17-4 record.
