In a hard fought battle, the Wellsboro Middle School Soccer team tied Athens 1-1 on Tuesday, October 13.
Athens struck first scoring the only goal of the first half just 7 minutes into the game. Wellsboro tied the score off a direct kick by Micaiah Fitch with 12 minutes remaining on the game clock. Wellsboro's defense held off a last minute attack by Athens to end the game in a tie.
Wellsboro out shot Athens 7-5. Keeper Annie Gehman had 4 saves in goal for Wellsboro.
In the second game of the night, Wellsboro came out on top of Athens with a score of 4-2. Wellsboro goals were scored by Lucas Trescott with an assist from Jonathan Carl, Mason Nowak with an assist from Jacoby Strang, and 2 goals by Jonathan Carl with an assist on one from John McConaghy.
Wellsboro took 12 shots on goal to Athens 3. Keeper Michale Losinger had 1 save in goal for Wellsboro.
