The Wellsboro Varsity Girls Basketball team scored a 55-27 NTL Large School Division win on the road in Troy to keep their playoff hopes alive.
The Lady Hornets are 8-10 are need to win three of their final four games to qualify. Right now the Lady Hornets sit in 8th place in the District IV Class AAA standings.
Wellsboro and Troy were tied 6-all after the opening quarter but the Lady Hornets went on a 16-7 run to lead 22-13 at halftime. Wellsboro then exploded for 22 points in the 3rd to put the game in their control.
Senior Cathryn Brought (12) and junior Bailey Monks (10) both scored in double figures to lead Wellsboro on the night while sophomore Emma Coolidge was right there with 9 points. Freshman Jordyn Abernathy had 7, junior Kiyah Boyce had 6, sophomore Emma Brandenburg finished with 4, freshman Rylie Boyce added 3 points off the bench, and junior Sarah Mosher and senior Brieanna Tuttle rounded out the scoring with 2 points each.
Abernathy added 8 rebounds and 4 assists, Monks grabbed 9 boards and blocked a shot, Brought added 8 rebounds, 4 assists, and 4 steals, and Coolidge also grabbed 3 rebounds.
The win improves the Lady Hornets' record to 8-10 overall and 8-6 in the NTL Large School Division standings. The girls travel to Williamson tomorrow.
