Senior Abigail Colton became the latest Hornet, and the 2nd Lady Hornet tennis player, to announce her commitment to continuing her career at the next level on Wednesday, June 24.
Colton will attend Asbury University in Kentucky. She is also a 3rd generation attendee of the university.
"I grew up going there for my mom's reunions so that played a part in my decision," Colton said. "I really like the campus and I've had more than just the traditional tour. They also have a great equine program that is very well known in the south."
Colton played first singles for the Lady Hornets all season long facing her opponent's best competition. While she will hold Wellsboro tennis and her teammates close to her heart she is also ready to compete at the collegiate level.
"I'm really looking forward to different competition than what I'm used to."
Colton finished her Wellsboro career with a 26-14 record.
"I can't take a whole lot of credit because it's my first year coaching," head coach Andy Borzok said. "But it seems like Abigail has had a good time the last four years so I'm really happy they can continue playing in college. She played very solid at first singles, she obviously had a lot of experience and being one of our team captains her leadership was very important."
WellsboroAthletics.com would like to congratulate Abigail on continuing her academic and athletic careers.
