The Wellsboro Middle School Basketball teams each erased two-game losing streaks with wins over Sayre on Thursday, November 21.
In the girls A game, Wellsboro won 33-7. The young Lady Hornets had an 11-0 lead after the opening quarter and went on to lead 21-1 at halftime. Maddy Mascho had 12 points, 3 rebounds, and 2 assists, Emily Morris had 10 points, 2 rebounds, 1 steal, and 1 assist, Chloe Brandenburg had 7 points, 3 rebounds, and 2 assists, Paige Logsdon (7 rebounds, 2 steals, 1 assist) and Hannah Gilmour (1 rebound) added 2 points each, Olivia Chilson had 2 rebounds, 1 steal, and 2 assists, Hannalee Cleveland had 1 rebound, 1 steal, and 1 assist, Emily Richardson had 2 rebounds, 4 steals, and 1 assist, and Emily Pierce added 1 rebound.
"Our girls shot our highest shooting percentage of the season and really played good team basketball," said head coach Darrell Morris.
Wellsboro also won the B game, 27-13. Emily Pierce had 12 points, Chloe Brandenburg had 5 points, Maddie Losinger had 4 points, and Raegan Bourrett, Abby Owlett, and Cassi Mitchell chipped in 2 points each.
In the boys A game, the Hornets won 38-12. Wellsboro took a 19-6 lead at halftime and went on to outscore Sayre 19-6 in the second half as well.
"We got off to another slow start tonight, but we were getting open looks at the basket," head coach Kyle Smith said. "Eventually we were able to get some shots to fall tonight, but it wasn't our best shooting effort. If we continue to improve our outside shooting, we could be a tough team to play later in the season."
Ian Hoose paced the hornets with 11 points on the night, Hayes Campbell scored 10 points, Julian Mann scored 9, E.J. Keck and Caden Smith scored 3 points a piece, and Tyler Youells added another 2 points.
The Wellsboro B team also won 22-16. Mitchel Lechler and E.J. Keck scored 8 points each, Micaiah Fitch added 4 points and Micah Vickery had 2 points.
Both teams are back in action at Wyalusing on Monday, November 25.
