The Wellsboro Varsity Girls Basketball team suffered their third loss of the season to Northeast Bradford on Thursday, December 19.
"The girls played decent defense but struggled offensively," head coach Maureen Poirier said after the game. "NEB is an excellent outside shooting team. They were tough to stop tonight. Moving forward we have to limit our turnovers and execute our offense. The girls never gave up. The Lady Hornets are a young team and will improve with game experience."
NEB jumped out to an early 19-4 lead after the first quarter and never looked back as they extended their lead to 30-10 at halftime. The Lady Hornets made up some ground in the third quarter with 13 points but still trailed 44-23 heading into the last quarter.
Senior Cathryn Brought led Wellsboro with 14 points, junior Bailey Monks added 9 points, sophomore Emma Brandenburg had 5 points, junior Sarah Mosher recorded 4 points, and sophomore Emma Coolidge rounded out the scoring with 2 points.
Lauryn Jones led all scorers with 19 points.
NEB also won the JV game, 42-14. Senior Brieanna Tuttle and freshman Ella Posada each had 5 points.
The loss drops the Lady Hornets to 1-3 (1-1 NTL Large School Division). The team is back in action on Monday, December 23 at rival North Penn-Mansfield.
