The Wellsboro Varsity Boys Basketball team scored their first NTL Large School Division win by topping Wyalusing 60-32 on Friday, January 4.
Senior Brandyn Tuttle dominated the first quarter scoring 14 of the Hornets' 19 points. Wellsboro held the Rams to 9 points in the first 8 minutes, but Wyalusing would start hitting some shots to close the gap on Wellsboro. Wellsboro managed to outscore the Wyalusing 17-14 in the quarter and held a 13-point, 36-23 lead at halftime.
The second half, however, was a completely different story. Wellsboro went on an 18-7 run as the second half started and limited the Rams to just 9 points the entire second half to pick up their seventh win in a row.
Tuttle led all scorers with 22 points, and also pulled down 12 rebounds with 2 assists and 2 steals. Senior Hunter Brown scored a career-high 14 points and was 1 rebound shy of a double-double with 9. Senior Andrew Brelo scored 10 points, sophomore Joseph Grab finished with 9, senior Tanner Button added 3, and senior Holden Kennedy added 2 points.
Grab added 5 assists to his point total, Button added 4 assists and 4 steals, Kennedy had 3 assists and 3 steals, and Brelo had 7 steals, 3 assists, and 3 rebounds.
Wellsboro started out the night with a 51-37 win in the JV game to improve to 4-3. Freshman Liam Manning led Wellsboro with 16 points.
The win improves the Hornets' record to 7-2 (5-0 NTL Large School Division). The team will be back in action on Wednesday, January 9 on the road in Sayre.
