The Wellsboro Varsity Boys Basketball team outscored Northeast Bradford 29-18 in the second half to score a 54-38 win over the visiting Panthers on Wednesday, December 11.
"The boys played a smart basketball game and are settling into the system," head coach Steve Adams said after the game. "We still have a lot to work on but we are giving great effort."
The Hornets had a slim 11-9 lead after the first quarter and outscored the Panthers 14-11 in the second to build a 25-20 lead at halftime. Wellsboro increased their lead over the final 16 minutes, and began pulling away in the third, with a 13-8 quarter before going on a 16-10 run in the fourth to put the game in their control.
Junior Joseph Grab led all scorers with a career-high 28 points, sophomore Liam Manning scored 10 points, sophomore Isaac Keane finished with 7 points, freshman Conner Adams added 5 points, and senior Ty Morral pitched in 4 points. Manning grabbed 10 rebounds for a double-double, Grab added 4 assists and 4 steals, and Adams and Keane each added 4 rebounds.
Wellsboro started the evening out with a 35-24 win in the JV game. Freshman Peyton McClure and sophomore Ryan Sweet scored 10 points each and sophomore Drew Manning added 9.
The win improves the Hornets to 2-1 (1-0 NTL Large School Division). The team will be back in action on Wednesday, December 18 at home against North Penn-Liberty.
