The Wellsboro Middle School soccer team edged rival North Penn-Liberty 5-4 at home on Wednesday, October 10.
Both teams scored two goals in the first half and the Hornets outscored Liberty 3-2 in the second half to bring home the win. Jack Poirier scored Wellsboro's first goal of the game and Peyton McClure scored the next three. Poirier scored the game-winner.
"I thought we came out really well got a lot of good attacks together did not capitalize on a few good ones in the first 10 minutes then we broke down defensively and let them score twice with breakaways," said head coach Wes Wood. "We got it together after halftime in the last 20 minutes and scored 3 goals. Nice job to the players for stepping up and coming back."
Wellsboro took 22 shots on goal while Liberty attempted 8.
The win improves the Hornets' record to 5-2-1. The team is back in action on Friday, October 12 against Northern Potter.
