The Wellsboro Middle School Basketball teams each picked up wins over Williamson on Saturday, December 15.
In the girls game the young Lady Hornets won 24-12. Despite trailing 4-0 after the first quarter and 9-5 at halftime, Wellsboro turned on the pressure and cut the lead to 12-10 after the third quarter. Then they outscored Williamson 14-0 in the fourth for the win.
"It was a crazy game. We had 0 points and 11 turnovers at the end of the first quarter," head coach Darrell Morris said. "The girls fought through it and closed out the game about as well as you can going on a 14-0 run in the 4th. I am really proud of how the girls battled and scrapped and never gave up."
Maddy Mascho had 11 points, 1 rebound, and 4 steals while Rylie Boyce (4 rebounds, 8 steals) and Ella Posada (3 rebounds) had 4 points each. Jordyn Abernathy (4 rebounds, 8 steals, 2 assists)) and Kambri Cleveland (3 rebounds) added 2 points each, Hailie Kerr added 1 point, 6 rebounds, and 1 steal, and Molly Ingerick added 1 rebound and 1 assist.
The Lady Hornet B team lost 9-4. Olivia Chilson and Emily Richardson had 2 point each.
In the boys game the Hornets rolled to a 48-2 win and the B team won 26-9. The Hornets scored 22 first-quarter points en route to the big win. Conner Adams led the team with 14 points, Cameron Brought added 7, Spencer Wetzel and Will Kibler scored 6 each, and Caden Smith added 5.
Peyton McClure, Matthew Keister, Hayes Campbell, Aiden Gehman, and Dru Clark rounded out the scoring with 2 points each.
Tyler Youells was the leading scorer in the B game with 9 points.
Both teams are back in action tomorrow against Cowanesque Valley.
