The Wellsboro Middle School Basketball teams swept rivals North Penn-Mansfield on Monday, March 5.
In the boys game the Hornets won 44-18. Wellsboro led 6-2 after the first then outscored the Tigers 16-7 in the second to build a comfortable 22-9 halftime lead. Wellsboro then outscored the Tigers 22-9 in the second half to pick up their 7th win of the season.
Darryn Callahan and Isaac Keane both scored 10 points to lead the Hornets while Conner Adams finished with 8. Ryan Sweet and Cameron Brought both added 6 points.
In the B game Wellsboro fell to Mansfield 28-16. The Hornets led 10-9 after the first half but were outscored 19-6 in the second half. Peyton McClure led all scorers with 10 points.
In the girls game, the Lady Hornets won 19-8. Wellsboro led 6-2 after the first, 10-6 at halftime, and 12-6 after the third before outscoring the Lady Tigers 7-2 in the final quarter to pick up their 10th win of the season.
"We had a cold shooting night going 10-of-42 from the floor, but our man-to-man defense was really good in the second half holding them scoreless from the field with their only points coming on 2 free throws," said head coach Darrell Morris.
Emma Brandenburg (14 rebounds) and Lindsey Marmara had 6 points each. Rylie Boyce had 3 points, 6 rebounds, and 1 steal. Emma Coolidge and Abby Cavanaugh added 2 points and 4 rebounds each, Emma Pietropola had 3 rebounds and 5 steals, and Ella Posada added 2 rebounds and 1 assist.
Wellsboro also won the B game, holding on for an 11-8 win. Rylie Boyce had 9 points and Alyssa Bisbing had 2 points.
The boys team is back in action tonight against Towanda while both teams host Cowanesque Valley on Wednesday, March 7.
