Middle School Hornets split with Mansfield

The Wellsboro Middle School Basketball teams split their final NTL season games with rivals North Penn-Mansfield on Saturday, December 22.

In the girls game, the Lady Hornets ended their season (9-5) on a high note with a big 32-6 win. The young Lady Hornets led 8-2 after the first and 16-4 at half before opening up a 28-6 after the third.

"It was good to finish our season with a strong win," coach Darrell Morris said. "These girls have played great defense all year and if they work on shooting in the off-season, they will be a tough team as they progress through high school."

Rylie Boyce had 10 points, 2 rebounds, 7 steals, and 3 assists. while Ella Posada (5 rebounds, 4 steals) and Maddy Mascho (1 steal) had 6 points each. Jordyn Abernathy added 4 points, 1 rebound, 5 steals, and 2 assists.

Hailie Kerr (7 rebounds, 2 steals), Molly Ingerick (3 rebounds, 1 steal), and Maddi Bordas chipped in 2 points each, Kambri Cleveland added 3 rebounds and 1 assist, Emily Pierce had 1 rebound and 1 steal, Emily Richardson had 2 rebounds and 2 steals, Alyssa Bisbing had 1 rebound, and Emily Morris had 2 steals.

The B team also won 21-14 to finish their season at 7-6-1 under coach Kristen West. Emily Morris, Maddy Mascho, and Emily Pierce had 4 points each. Olivia Chilson added 3 points, while Hannah Gilmour, Lily Covert, and Bring Wilson chipped in 2 points each.

In the boys game the Hornets had their 9-game win streak snapped in a 36-28 loss to the Tigers. Mansfield led 12-7 after the first quarter but Wellsboro cut it to a 16-14 score at haftime, but that would be as close as they would get. Peyton McClure led Wellsboro with 12 points, Conner Adams had 7, Cameron Brought scored 3, and Spence Wetzel, Will Kibler, and Hayes Campbell all scored 2 points each.

In the B game the Hornets won 29-21 behind 16 points from Tyler Youells.

The Middle School Boys still have two games remaning as they host Loyalsock on December 29 then travel to the Lancers on January 5.
