The Wellsboro Middle School Boys Basketball team evened up their season record at 8-8 after a lopsided 54-18 over Towanda on Tuesday, March 6.
The Hornets shutout the Black Knights 15-0 in the first half with their swarming defense, then held outscored them 13-6 in the second to lead 28-6. Wellsboro kept up the defensive pressure in the second half and outscored Towanda 26-12.
Wellsboro's defense came up with 14 steals on the night.
Isaac Keane had a breakout game with 22 points, 6 assists, 8 steals, 6 rebounds, and 2 blocks. Peyton McClure finished with 14 points and an assist, Darryn Callahan scored 13 points and had 3 steals and 3 rebounds, and Conner Adams had 3 points, 3 assists, and 2 steals. Ryan Sweet also added 2 points.
The Hornets were not as lunky in the B game, as they lost to unbeaten Towanda, 34-19. After trailing 6-2 in the first, the Black Knights outscored the Hornets 28-17 the rest of the way.
McClure (11) and Sweet (8) were the only two Hornets to score in the game.
The Hornets close out their 2017-18 home schedule later tonight against Cowanesque Valley.
