The Wellsboro Middle School Boys Basketball team picked up their 4th straight win as they hand Wyalusing a 37-20 loss at home on Monday, December 3.
Wellsboro led 17-12 at half and held Wyalusing to 8 points in the second half. Cameron Brought led Wellsboro with 14, Conner Adams had 10 and Peyton McClure finished with 8 points.
"We came out a little flat for some reason but the boys picked up the intensity in the second half," coach Steve Adams noted. "It was a good team effort."
Wyalusing won the B game 28-13. Aiden Gehman and Dru Clark each scored 4 points in the loss to lead Wellsboro.
In the girls A game the Lady Hornets suffered a 20-18 overtime defeat. Trailing 5-2 after the first quarter the young Lady Hornets went on an 8-1 run to lead 10-6 at halftime. Wyalusing then rallied to take a 14-12 lead into the fourth quarter. Both teams were tied at 18-all after regulation.
Rylie Boyce had 7 points, 6 rebounds, 6 steals, and 3 assists; Hailie Kerr had 5 points, 8 rebounds, and 1 steal; Ella Posada (10 rebounds, 2 steals); Kambri Cleveland (3 rebounds, 1 steal); and Maddie Mascho (5 rebounds, 1 steal) had 2 points each. Molly Ingerick added 2 rebounds while Emily Morris, Olivia Chilson, and Maddie Bordas added 1 rebound each.
"We had an exciting game and the girls gained valuable experience in the late minutes and overtime," head coach Darrell Morris said. "The difference in the game was mostly free throw shooting as we only made 2/15 and they made 9/27. I have to do a better job getting the girls prepared to take advantage at the line."
The B team also lost 11-8 after holding a 6-2 lead after the first quarter. Emily Morris had 4 points and Olivia Chilson and Emily Pierce added 2 points each.
Both teams are back in action on Wednesday, December 5 on the road against Troy.
