The Wellsboro Varsity Girls Soccer team scored three second half goals to beat Towanda 4-1 on the road on Saturday, October 13.
After a goal midway through the first half by sophomore Jena Boyce (Kerrah Clymer assist), Towanda scored with 13:53 remaining to tie the game up. After halftime the game was all Wellsboro.
With 25:08 remaining senior Emma Poirier delivered a perfect corner kick that Clymer headed in to give the Lady Hornets a 2-1 lead. Poirier then scored back-to-back goals to give the Lady Hornets a comfortable lead and win. Her first came with 18:54 remaining and her second with 9:43 left. Clymer assisted on both goals.
The Lady Hornets outshot Towanda 17-6 and had a 9-1 advantage in corner kicks. Freshman Lilly Abadi made 4 saves in goal.
In the JV game Wellsboro won 2-0 to improve 8-6. Junior Savana Baltzley and sophomore Madelyn Rudy scored for Wellsboro.
The Varsity team's win improves them to 9-7 overall (9-4 NTL). The team is back in action for Senior Night against Port Allegany on Tuesday, October 16.
