Hornets track teams fall to Hughesville

The Wellsboro Boys and Girls track teams each suffered losses to Hughesville on Thursday, April 5.

The Spartan boys won 94-36 while the girls won 115-35.

For the boys, senior Alex Kozuhowski (11.6) won the 100m while sophomore Aidan Hauser (12.1) in 3rd. Kozuhowski also won the 200m in 23.3 with freshman Joseph Grab (26.3) in 4th. Junior Brett Rudy (57.8) was 3rd in the 400m, juniors Trevor Weaver (2:30.8) and Bergen Weiner (2:31) were 2nd and 3rd in the 800m. Freshman Tylar Wright (5:48) was 4th in the 1600m and 4th in the 3200m (12:49.1).

Sophomore Alex Burrell (17.8), sophomore Brennan Warner (19.3), freshman Evan Hoover (20.3), and junior Elijiah Cruz (23.1) were 2nd-5th in the 110m hurdles, with Warner (47.1) and Hoover (49.5) finishing 2nd and 3rd in the 300m hurdles.

Junior Holden Kennedy (5-ft, 4) was 2nd in the high jump with sophomore Frank Kewitt (5-ft) and freshman Zach Singer (4-ft, 10) in 3rd and 4th. Sophomore Clayton Orsborn (8-ft, 6) and senior Devin Webster (8-ft, 6) were 2nd and 3rd in the pole vault, Kozuhowski (18-ft, 9.5), Hauser (17-ft, 9), Orsborn (15-ft, 9.5), and junior Isaac Wagner (15-ft, 5) were 2nd-5th in the long jump.

Weiner (36-ft, 6), sophomore Karter Witmer (35-ft, 10), and Kewitt (32-ft, 8) were 2nd-4th in the triple jump.

Junior Hunter Brown (34-ft) and sophomore Keegan Clemens (29-ft, 7) were 4th and 5th in the shot put, Brown (105-ft, 11) and junior Aidan Perry (88-ft) took the top two spots in the discus, and sophomore Austin Richards (135-ft, 10) won the javelin with Brown (117-ft, 1) and Burrell (110-ft, 4) in 3rd and 4th.

Wellsboro won the 4x100m relay in 45.7 and were 2nd in the 4x400m (4:09) and 2nd in the 4x800m (10:16.5).

For the girls, sophomore Caitlyn Callahan (13.6) won the 100m with senior Grace Heckman (14.8) and junior Alaina Goetsch (14.9) in 6th and 7th, and Callahan (29.0) and sophomore Savana Baltzley (30.0) were 2nd and 3rd in the 200m. Junior Zoe Iseri (1:16.7) was 5th in the 400m, junior Kara Doane (3:06.3) and sophomore Kylie Butler (3:13.8) were 3rd and 4th in the 800m, and senior Anna Bleggi (6:35.1) and Elizabeth Macias (6:37.8) were 3rd and 4th in the 1600m. Macias was 2nd in the 3200m at 14:13.

Heckman (19.3) was 3rd in the 100m hurdles and Baltzley (55.7) was 2nd in the 300m hurdles. Callahan took 3rd in the high jump at 4-ft, 4 with junior Alivia Kennedy (4-ft, 2) in 5th, senior Kaitlyne Kramer won the pole vault at 6-ft, 6, and junior Dahlia Hosey was 2nd in the long jump (14-ft, 5) and won the triple jump (35-ft, 6.5).

Senior Rebecca Janelli placed 7th in the shot put (22-ft, 5), seniors Abby Feil (53-ft, 7) and Grace Feil (53-ft, 1) were 7th and 8th in the discus, and Abby Feil was 2nd in the javelin with a throw of 77-ft, 10.

Wellsboro took 2nd in the 4x100m (55.5), 4x400m (5:16.3), and the 4x800m (12:41.8) relays.

The losses drop the boys team to 2-1 (2-0 NTL) and the girls team to 1-2 (1-1 NTL). Both teams host Athens and Troy on Tuesday, April 10.
